生麦事件の碑
昭和六十三年十一月一日登録
朝廷は幕府に攘夷断行を求め、江戸に赴く大原勅使の護衛として
薩摩の島津久光が同行し、その帰途、文久二年八月二十一日(西暦
一八六二年九月十四日)午後二時、行列を横切ろうとしたイギリス
人一行を生麦で殺傷しました。この事件を土地に因んで生麦事件と
いい、薩英戦争の契機となりました。
明治十六年、鶴見の人、黒川荘三が中村敬宇の選文を得てイギリ
ス商人リチャドソン落命の地に、遭難の碑を自費で建立したもの
です。
(碑文) 文久二年壬戌八月二十一日英国人力査遜
殞命于此処乃鶴見人黒川荘三所有之地也
荘三乞余誌其事因為之歌々日
蹟 君流血号此海壖我邦変進亦其源強藩起号
王室振耳目新号唱民権擾々生死聴知聞萬
菖 国有史君名傳我今作歌勅貞珉君其含笑干

NAMAMUGI’
INCIDENT
Among the incidents which saw foreigners being slain in the late
(the last half of the19th century), one which resulted in a tense in-
ternational controversy was the so-called"Namamugi''Incident In
August 1862 when Samurai of the Shimazu Clan murderd an En-
glishman named Richardson in Namamugi Village. On the spot
where the Englishman was attacked and killed, Shozo Kuro-
kawa of Tsurumi, Yokohama in1883,erected a monument, entru-
sting the inscription to Keiu Nakamura. By this means,the
historical site this day.
